Junio 3-7 / Tadeusz Kantor:                            Other Pasts, Other Futures

​

Casa Cruz de la Luna is happy to present "Tadeusz Kantor: Other Pasts and Other Futures," a project centered on Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990) one of the most revolutionary stage directors of the twentieth century, whose practice also encompassed visual arts, object experimentation, performance and theory. The program is divided into a series of lectures in San Juan and San Germán by world renowned scholar and Kantor specialist Dr. Michal Kobialka and an intensive 3 day lab component in San Germán in which Aravind Adyanthaya, Casa Cruz de la Luna's resident director, will lead participants in a series of exercises and short creations informed by Kantor's theatre.

The lectures will feature screenings of fragments and discussion of Kantor´s productions of “The Dead Class,” “Wielopole, Wieloploe,” stagings which proposed a radical form of theatre ingrained in memory, non-lineal time and a new way of conceiving art as non-representational. The lab exercises and explorations will further reference Kantorian notions explained in the lectures, such as: objects, bio-objects, and machines, reality of the lowest rank, emballage, theatre and death, theatre as a historiographical practice, and autonomous theatre.

Dr. Michal Kobialka, Professor at the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance of the University of Minnesota, has published numerous articles and two books on Kantor   – A Journey through Other Spaces (University of California Press, 1993) and Further on, Nothing: Tadeusz Kantor´s Theatre (University of Minnesota Press, 2009) – both containing his English translations of Kantor´s essays and manifestos and his theoretical reflections on the work.  Other areas of specialization include medieval European representational practices and theatre and the Enlightenment.

Lab:The lab will take place from Sunday June 4 / 8PM to Wednesday June 7 / 10PM at Casa Cruz de la Luna at San Germán´s historic center.  Application to the lab is now closed.

Este laboratorio-taller explora la incorporación de la metodología de Teatro del Oprimido del director brasileño Augusto Boal y ejercicios que nos conectan a contenidos del inconsciente y al azar. Intentamos abrir ventanas, más allá de las estructuras lógicas de Teatro de Oprimido, para el enfrentamiento de problemas sociales a través de modos de pensamiento no lineales, donde las relaciones de causa y efecto se juegan, se borran para multiplicarse, se circunvalan.
Ampliamente difundidas a través del mundo y con una tradición sólida en la Isla, las técnicas e ideas del Teatro del Oprimido han servido de base para transaccionar temas de injusticia, desigualdad y marginalidad. Este laboratorio parte de las prácticas de Boal enfatizando flujos entre lo Interior y lo Exterior. En este sentido tomaremos dinámicas expuestas en sus libros "Juegos para Actores y No-Actores" y "El Arco Iris del Deseo", hibridándolas con distintos elementos tomados del psicoanálisis (Freudiano y Jungiano), de las vanguardias clásicas que indagan sobre múltiples realidades (particularmente el simbolismo y el surrealismo), y de investigaciones contemporáneas en teatro y tecnología.

El concepto de laboratorio-taller combina módulos de instrucción con ejercicios cuya estructura ya ha sido establecida y nuevas experimentaciones que surgen sobre la marcha, creando una matriz donde no sólo se generan contenidos, sino también formas de hacer.
 

Abierto a personas sobre los 16 años con distintos niveles de experiencia.
